Officer Albert H. Piasecki Jr. of the Chestertown Police Department stopped a 2005 Mitsubishi 4 door sedan for an equipment violation at the 800 Block of High Street in Chestertown, Maryland on. March 19 at 9:44PM.
During the course of the traffic stop a K-9 scan was conducted on the vehicle resulting in a positive alert to the presence of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS). A search of the vehicles center console yielded (26) individual baggies of “crack” cocaine (13.5 grams) and (6) individual baggies of powder cocaine (4.0 grams).
The driver, John James Munson, AA/M, DOB: 06/24/84, Address: 359 Calvert St. Chestertown, Maryland was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with two counts of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, two counts of possession with intent to distribute cocaine in a school zone, two counts of possession of cocaine and four counts of possession of CDS paraphernalia. The suspect is currently incarcerated in the Kent County Detention Center on $155,000 cash bond.
The suspect Munson, is a known Chestertown community activist and founder of the organization identified as “SEEDS”. The suspect was recently featured in the Chestertown Spy, where he identified the degradation of the African American community in Chestertown was unemployment and drugs.
The suspect is currently on federal parole for a 2003 armed bank robbery in Chestertown, Maryland.
