The Chestertown Arts League’s show for April 2012 is on the theme “Showing Off” and is open to all artists in all mediums. The curators invite artists to push themselves in their favorite mediums and/or into a new or less favored medium. Artists are encouraged to put aside inhibitions and be audacious – perhaps eschewing a traditional strength to test themselves in new areas. They might address a new subject or mood; allow their eye or palette to wander; show more abstraction or realism than is their normal wont; perhaps be an entirely different artist…… The curators hope the artists might harness or rediscover the kind of abandoned joy they felt as pre-schoolers engaging in an artful project – that state where the critical eye of a viewer is no consideration.
Check-in for submissions is at the CAL’s Cannon Street galleries Sunday April 1, 1-3 pm or Tuesday April 3, 10am-1pm and the show will open Friday April 6 with a reception 5-8pm. The show will run through Sunday April 22. Unsold work should be picked up: Sunday April 22, 3-5pm or
Tuesday April 24, 10am-1pm. Artists may bring up to 3 pieces for consideration – unaccepted pieces will be returned immediately (at check-in) to the artist. The submitted work should not have been previously shown in any CAL sponsored show.
