The Office of the State Fire Marshal of Maryland released a report yesterday afternoon that confirmed that the Seventh-Day Adventist Church fire was caused by a electrical malfunction in an electric organ.
WBOC (channel 16) had previously reported that the Church on North Kent Street was damaged by fire this morning. The Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company, assisted by nine other fire companies, responded to the blaze at around 6:30 a.m. There were no reported injuries. However, nearby Garnett Elementary has been closed due to fumes from the fire.

Seventh-Day Adventist’s are not Mormons – they are the Church of Latter Day Saints.

Thank you for pointing this out. As this was breaking news, our normal due diligence did not take place a few minutes ago. We have corrected the error on the headline and sorry we got it wrong.
Nina says
This unfortunate fire took place at the 7th Day Adventist Church. There is no Mormom Church in Chestertown.

It is all good!
A commercial on a national TV channel has Ben Franklin as a president and quotesThomas Jefferson saying something from Poor Richard.
Sin no more!

I live across the street and saw the bravery and efficiency of our the highly trained and skilled VOLUNTEER firemen. They would emerge from the blackened church door, take off masks and you could see how hard they’d worked.Another group would be sent in. We usually watch the fire trucks in parades. It was impressive to see what sophisticated machines they are when i action. Everything needed had its special place and was put back there, rinsed off.
We are unbelieveably fortunate to have such dedicated citizens to help us when disaster strikes .
My congratulations and thanks to the firemen and women who give countless hours so they are ready when we need them.

As I child I watched the black smoke billowing across the valley when my own church caught fire from an electrical malfunction, and witnessed the devastation of centuries old stained glass windows imported from Germany as they melted in the intense heat. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the members of this congregation.

My condolences to the congregation. It’s sad to have one’s church home damaged and to lose the organ.

Errr!
This may be the same guy that brought charges against the cake exploder ib Rock Hall. Nice form! But some insurance adjuster is going to wipe. . .is going to disregard the suspected source of the fire. Lawyers will meet. Things will be fixed.
Instead of a hearty thank you to the volunteer fire guys…how about considering how much local taxes would have to go up to pay for the service they render? Then there is the consideration of what happens when you call 911 and are told…all volunteer fire personel are working…please call after six PM or on a weekend?
Poor organ!
