The New Line Brass Band plays bluesy New Orleans style parade music in the tradition of Olympia, Treme and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. The core of the group is trumpet/cornet player Zack Smith’s hard-driving Dixie Power Trio with bass player Andy Kochenour, drummer Byron McWilliams and guitarist Chuck Underwood. (Yes, a trio of 4…) The big street parade sound is generated by some of the region’s finest horn players including Dan Haverstock on trombone and Pete BarenBregge or Bruce Swaim on saxophone. The group blends traditional brass band standards, spirituals, zydeco and original compositions into a tasty gumbo with a loose vibe and a funky groove.
Since its inception in 1998, the New Line Brass Band has played the Kennedy Center Millenium Stage, the Great American Brass Band Festival, the 2000 Vice-Presidential debates, the Bluemont Concert Series, and in numerous concert settings and parades. Their debut CD “Bad Spuds” was acclaimed by the Washington Post, and heard in the feature film “Crazy Like A Fox” and the Warner Brothers TV show “Elimidate Deluxe”.
