The Chestertown Spy, Echo Hill Outdoor School, and Washington College’s Department of Athletics will be sponsoring the first annual Chestertown Kick Film Festival on April 22 at the Garfield Center. With a focus on inspiration and awe, the Kick Festival will be offering a full day of film programming from full length documentaries to short local short features.
“The theme of inspiration and awe is very close to Echo Hill Outdoor School’s own mission,” said Andrew McCown. “We inspire our students to look more carefully and intensely at the wonders that an outdoor life of exploration provides.” “If we can get them to look, awe and wonder often follows.”
The festival theme also has roots in the world of athletics. Bryan Matthews, Director of WC Athletics, was also looking for alternative ways to highlight the love and passion that comes with sports and lifelong physical health. “I think with the use of film, our community’s students can see in very dramatic ways how the life of the body intersects with the life of the positive mind. We think using film to help demonstrate how remarkable this can be for people was a great strategy.”
The films and times will be announced in early March.
