Deputy State Fire Marshals have charged a Rock Hall man with Reckless Endangerment, Possession of Illegal Fireworks and Discharge of Fireworks stemming from a February 3, 2012 incident at his home in the 21800 block of Sunnyside Avenue in Rock Hall.
Investigators determined Jerry Lee Heinefield (36) placed an illegal consumer grade firework inside a small gingerbread style house located on the front porch of his home in an attempt to destroy the home baked confection. Upon igniting the firework, it exploded and a projectile from the device struck his wife in her wrist, causing a severe injury requiring treatment at Chester River Hospital.
As a direct result of this incident, Heinefield was served a criminal summons last night at his place of employment. If convicted of the charges he faces up to 5 years imprisonment and/or $10,500 in fines.
“Incidents of this type are a reminder of the potential hazards when using fireworks. These devices can be far too dangerous to use or experiment with,” stated State Fire Marshal William E. Barnard. “Lacerations, finger amputations, burns and eye injuries are a painful price to pay for a few minutes worth of excitement and pleasure.”

Time to cut the State fire Marshal’ Budget
I’d like to see any justification for the costs of prosecuting this one.
Yo,
State Fire Marshal William E. Barnard it was 4th of July………………..Lacerations, finger amputations, burns and eye injuries are a painful price to pay for a few minutes worth of excitement and pleasure it is over!

LJ,
They got me…………so it was not July 4 ………….February 3 is close enough. If the boy (36) wanted to blow up an unsatisfactory cake………home baked confection,………….well that must be one of the rights we fought for at Ft. McHenry when our ancestors (hope yours…mine were Brits) ducked and covered all night while the flag was still there.
And do not get Frosty started…he wants to be a turtle next, ya know.
But the question still remains….even after these guys (fire marshalls) are given millions of dollars worth of equipment…should they be allowed to rise to a position where they can sick da dogs on a good old boy who wants to blow something up?

I agree with Joe. I think the injury to his wife is sufficient reminder that fireworks are dangerous. He was on his own property. Caused no other damage. Didn’t even result in an emergency response by the fire department. Do they just not have enough to do, that they had to go to this guy’s place of work and cite him for blowing up a cake? Really? Come on Man!

This case has been dropped. Our court system has better things to do. Thanks to our state fire marshalls office for all the free publicity. JERRY HEINEFIELD BUILDERS @ 410 708 2142
