Nancy Hammond Editions is throwing a party to celebrate the coming of Spring!
On Sunday, February 12th, the art gallery, Nancy Hammond Editions at 102 Turpins Lane Centreville MD, is showing paintings, by Hammond, of almost all flowers.
From 10 AM to 6PM, the gallery will be hosting the public event with Nancy Hammond there to greet patrons and newcomers.
The color-laden flower paintings include peonies, hydrangeas, nasturtiums and roses —and more. Ms. Hammond says the darker days of this winter were spent in her studio surrounded by flowers. “I arranged empty wine bottles to each hold a different stalk so I could see the individual-shaped leaves of the blooms. Walking into my studio every morning was not a bad way to handle winter–very refreshing!”
There is one exception in the show. A very large painting, Lone Heron, of a heron fishing in shallow water in front of a tan and gray sky and trees is a prominent piece in the flower-bedecked show. “I kept looking for color in the landscape. The only color late in the day was the sun hitting the dried beech leaves and turning them translucent orange.” says Hammond.
Serving chocolate and wine; hints of Valentines Day. No hearts but many flowers and much to love.
