The next St. Luke’s Forum discussion will take place on Sunday, January 29 at 4 p.m. at the parish hall of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Church Hill.
Georgetown University professor of Islamic history John O. Voll will keynote a discussion of, “The Muslim World and the West – Moving Closer or Further Apart?” Dr. Voll, a graduate of Dartmouth College who holds a PhD. from Harvard University, has lived in Cairo, Beirut, and Sudan and travels widely in the Muslim world. He currently serves as associate director of Georgetown’s Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding and is a past president of the Middle East Studies Association.
After Dr. Voll’s presentation, a panel of equally distinguished experts – Dr. Muqtedar Khan, Associate Professor of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Delaware, and The Rt. Rev. James J. (“Bud”) Shand, Episcopal Bishop of the Diocese of Easton – will continue the discussion of the topic. The audience will be encouraged to ask questions and make comments.
The St. Luke’s parish hall of our early 18th century church incorporates one of the earliest schools in this part of the world. St. Luke’s is located at 401 Main Street, Church Hill, MD 21623, across from the Queenstown Bank, where Rt. 19 intersects with Main Street.
The forum is an open, free, informal and wholly secular inquiry, and is open to all.
