Downtown Chestertown art galleries and shops will usher in 2012’s 1st First Friday with new exhibits and after holiday sales, as well as refreshments. Weather permitting, (and the forecast is for a balmy 40 degrees that evening), the Lemon Leaf ladies will be handing out free samples of crab soup to ward off the chill.
The Kent County Library suggests the public park in their lot and begin their First Friday festivities by viewing exhibits of artists Terry Willis and Theresa Schram. Area native Terry Willis gave up hunting with a shotgun for “shooting” wildlife with a camera’s lens. This former farm boy believes that his veins are filled with mud, the result of pursuing his art form where the land meets the water. Capturing what nature has produced, his wildlife portraits are presented on a familiar canvas—in the fields, swamps and marshes of Kent County. The oil paintings of Easton-based contemporary artist Theresa Schram will be featured throughout the month. Event begins at 5:30.
Artworks and Chestertown Arts League are show casing the work of talented students from local schools in both the Artworks Gallery and Chestertown Arts League’s Studio Gallery. The show continues through January, and is full of imagination and color created by Kent County’s next generation.
Gallery 317 has new artwork by printmaker Stephanie Somers and painter John Jorgenson. There will also be leftover holiday sale items, so get them before they’re gone! 317 Cannon St. in Chestertown. Open from 5-8pm on First Friday. The gallery also has new hours: 11-5pm every Friday and Saturday.
The Artists’ Gallery has new works by Shirley Hunt, including photographs, watercolors, and pastels. The show will hang through February 26, 2012.
