Fire damaged two Kennedyville houses in separate incidents over the weekend. No injuries were reported in either fires, state Fire Marshal’s investigators reported.
The first fire was discovered in a second-floor bedroom of a house on the 12000 block of Kennedyville Road about 2:15 p.m. Damage estimated at $15,000 to the residence and its contents. Firefighters from Kennedyville, Betterton, Chestertown and Galena brought the fire under control in 30 minutes. The cause is under investigation. Residents of the house were staying with relatives, fire investigators reported.
The second fire caused more than $160,000 damage to a one-story home on the 12100 block of Browntown Road about 12:10 a.m. Sunday. The house was being remodeled and was unoccupied at the time of the fire. A passerby called in the alarm. Firefighters from Kennedyville, Galena, Chestertown, Betterton and Millington responded and brought the fire under control in 30 miles.
The Fire Marshal’s office reported that the fire was an accident and started when heat from a woodstove flue ignited nearby materials.
