David LaMotte, president of LaMotte Chemical, confirmed this afternoon that the company experienced an unidentified smell in one area of production last night where 5 people were working. It is not clear whether the smell was coming from inside the building or was brought in but employees complained of headaches and one employee was sick to his stomach and taken to the Chester River Health Center.
The hospital notified the fire department, who inspected the building, and the incident report states “they (fire department personnel) determined that it didn’t seem to come from inside the building and that as far they could tell, everything was safe.” There was no chemical spill.
