Meditation Community Offers Daylong Retreat

October 27, 2011 by Bay Journal

The Insight Meditation Community of Chestertown is offering a daylong meditation retreat on the theme, “The Three Temperaments”, on Saturday, November 5, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Chester River Friends Meeting House in Chestertown.

Mary Powell, Insight Meditation practitioner and teacher from Santa Fe, New Mexico, will lead the retreat. The day will include meditation instruction, periods of sitting and walking meditation, and dharma talks.

The Buddhist commentaries describe three temperaments:
Greedy , Aversive and Delusive. Each of the three contains a kernel of wisdom that can be cultivated by practice. Greed will mature into faith and trustworthiness. Aversion will mature into keen discernment and wisdom. Delusion will mature into patient speculation that penetrates through perplexity. Investigating and becoming aware of the three temperaments will help to awaken the three wholesome qualities.

Both beginners and experienced meditators are welcome. Bring a bag lunch, and any sitting equipment you like to use. Chairs and benches are also available. For registration information, go to the Meditation Community’s web site www.imc-chestertown.org or call Anne Briggs at 410-778-1746.
