CAL Show “Portals” Opens Oct First Friday

September 21, 2011 by James Dissette

Share

The Chestertown Arts League show for October is called “Portals.” Evie Baskin, as curator of this show, has invited artists to step out on a creative limb to come up with their own interpretation of this versatile theme. For some, a portal could mean a physical opening, such as a gate, an archway, path or door, or perhaps it might be an entrance into an imaginary world or something only dreamed about.

Maybe it is an “Aha!” moment of enlightenment, when the clouds lift and thought becomes clear, or it could be a spiritual pathway suddenly illuminated. The Portals show is open to all artists (members and non-members of CAL) and will include all forms of media, from paint, pastel and mixed media to sculpture, graphite and photography.

Concurrently with the work of Portals, artist Patty Mowell will be exhibiting her watercolor paintings and photographs in the Studio Gallery of the Chestertown Arts League.

Both the Portals show and the work by Patty Mowell will open on First Friday, October 7th with a reception at the Chestertown Arts League from 5-8 p.m. These shows will run throughout the month of October.

The CAL galleries are found at 312 Cannon Street in Chestertown.
Regular gallery hours are: Wednesday – Friday noon to 3 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.; and Sunday noon to 3 p.m.

For further information on the 2011 CAL show schedule, contact Lani Seikaly at [email protected] and for general information on CAL activities visit www.chestertownartsleague.org or call the gallery at 410-778-5789.
