Medicare has new dates for those considering a change in the Part D prescription drug plan. The period runs from October 15 through December 7, according to Upper Shore Aging, Inc.
Since health needs change from year to year, it is important for Medicare recipients to review their coverage in order to save money and/or obtain better coverage. According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the change in dates will allow efficient processing of requests before the January 1, 2012, implementation date.
The “Medicare & You 2012” handbook is being mailed to people with Medicare this month. Enrollees can go to www.medicare.gov/find-a-plan to compare current coverage with all of the options that are available in this area, and enroll in a new plan if a change is warranted.
Enrollees can also call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) 24-hours a day/7 days a week to find out more about coverage options. TTY users should call 1-877-486-2048.
Local residents and their families can also schedule one-on-one help from Stephanie Lindsey, State Health Insurance Assistance Program Coordinator, at the Amy Lynn Ferris Adult Activity Center, 200 Schauber Rd., Chestertown. Appointments are required. Call 410-778-2564.
