For those of you who have ever played an air guitar or have fond memories of stage diving, Church Hill Theatre has the summer event for you. A compilation of energetic and edgy artists will bring The Rock Musical’s Musical to the CHT stage on July 8th and 9th. This fully realized and dynamic group of performances will contain a variety of iconic American rock musical songs. As an organization that has made great strides in embracing contemporary styles, it seems only natural that CHT should present a fundraiser made up of contemporary classics.
It all began with Hair. In 1969, rock music burst onto the mainstream Broadway scene. It did not take over Broadway quickly, but like any great revolution, it seeped into the American psyche until it was undeniably persuasive and impossible to ignore. Gradually, the American musical theatre evolved to reflect the signs of the times. Out of that penetrating energy came instant classics such as Jesus Christ Superstar, Godspell, The Rocky Horror Show, Little Shop of Horrors, Tommy, RENT, Spring Awakening, American Idiot, and all of the future rock classics yet to be experienced.
Featured songs for The Rock Musicals Musical include La Vie Boheme from RENT, Mama Who Bore Me from Spring Awakening, Age of Aquarius from Hair, Suddenly Seymour from Little Shop of Horrors, Pinball Wizard from Tommy, Touch-a-Touch Me from The Rocky Horror Show, among others. The cast of top-notch rock singer talent includes: Kelly Bartin, Anna Black, John Cain, Krista Cain, Kyle Cain, Liz Clarke, Sarah Crump, Matt Folker, Malley Hester, Mary Hester, Christopher Long, Dylan Lyles, Brittney Lynn, Jesse Lynn, Conor Maloney, Samantha Smith, Felicia Tuttle, Ricky Vitanovec, and Luke Wallis. Members of the production staff are Steve Arnold, Producer; Krista Cain and Brittney Lynn, Co-Directors; and Tammy Cain, Stage Manager.
Make reservations to see the rock music event of the summer which will be on the CHT stage for only two nights: Friday, July 8th and Saturday, July 9th. Performances begin at 8 pm. Tickets for the event are $20 and include hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Call the CHT office at 410.758.1331. Reservations are strongly recommended. Come out and support your local community theatre by attending this wonderful, electrically-charge event! Bring your air guitars, but stage diving is strictly prohibited.
