Attempted Repeal of Town Bag Ordinance Fails

May 23, 2011 by Daniel Menefee

Share

The Chestertown Board of Elections released a decision not to bring the recently passed bag ban to a referendum. A petition brought forth by  a group of citizens hoping to repeal the new law failed because there was not a sufficient number signatures to put the referendum on the ballot.

The finding of the Board are below.

Talk about wasting money. This continued nonsense is such an example of wasting the Town’s money and people’s time. If only these elephant egos put their effort into helping keeping the River, Bay and Town clean our children and grandchildren will grow up in a better place.

As long as the referendum process exists and citizens have a right to gather petitions to put an ordinance on the ballot, such efforts are not a waste of money nor a waste of time. It’s simple democracy in action. I would say that High Street High Times would not see the petition/referendum process a waste of time in the unlikely event that the mayor and council approved a big box store in town.

Get rid of the McDonalds and 50% of the trash is gone immediately.

If McDonalds goes, not only does at least half the trash also go “immediately” — thanks, “MD Eastern Shore”! — but all those ex-McD customers will be a lot healthier and live a lot longer!

At the risk of being redundant:

Tea Party…Tea Party … Tea Party

The Plastic Bag issue was an exercise in ego-preening to the point of exaserbation.

This is how they govern. This is who they are..Nationally and locally.

Whatever happened to the loyal opposition?

Let’s not stop there…remove all businesses and all of the people and the trash issue would be entirely gone. Why blame McDonalds. They aren’t emptying their dumpsters along the streets. Put the blame where it belongs – on the heads of those who trash the highways.

There should be a county wide trash ordinance that will be enforced at a level of fine that works like speeding tickets on points connected to punishment. I

think that black pickups with roaring mufflers and semi-human drivers will be that vehicle most cited.

Most are returning from or headed for a Terminator casting call. Being multi -talented they also play zombies.

When it gets to the point that the debate winners are issuing Terminator and zombie jokes, I’m thinking this issue has jumped the shark.

What would we all do here if there were no self appointed glib critic to shadow every stroke?

Every forum needs an Elsworth Tooey to homogenize free thought.
