All artists are invited to submit their photographic work to the Chestertown Arts League’s 9th Annual Photography Awards Show. This work may be B/W or color and traditional film or digital and on any subject. In this judged show awards will
include modest monetary prizes for “Best in Show” and for First Place in a variety of categories which will include Nature and Wildlife; Scenic; the Works of Man; Human Subjects and Portraiture; Abstracts, and Still life; Black and White, Creative Digital Enhancement and open subjects. The judge will give other non-monetary awards in the form of honorable mentions. This is a highly popular annual show with historically wide-ranging participation from regional photographers.Our judge is Michael Wootton , a photographer based in Kennedyville, Maryland, in the heart of the Chesapeake Bay region. MCW Photography specializes in Chesapeake Bay maritime and regional images. Michael Wootton’s work has appeared in national and regional magazines and a variety of books. He has been freelancing in editorial and commercial markets since 1980 and is a contributing photographer for Sailing Magazine, Chesapeake Bay Magazine, WoodenBoat, and Maryland Magazine. Artists may submit up to two pieces of their original work to the show. This work must not have previously been shown locally in a CAL sponsored event, and it should be work from the past two years. The drop-off (and sign-in) for the work is Tuesday, May 24, from 10 am to 4 pm at the CAL Galleries, 312 Cannon St in Chestertown, Md. The show will be open from Friday, May 27, through Sunday, June 26. The reception and awards presentation will be First Friday, June 3, from 5pm – 8pm. The presentation of awards and judge’s remarks are scheduled for 6 pm.
Entry fees for participants are $10 per piece for CAL members and $15 per piece for others. (Non-members who chose to join at sign-in will receive the member rate – most CAL monthly themed shows are all-media and welcome photography). The work must be properly framed and the hanging wires must be securely attached to the frame sides. On the back of each piece provide: title of piece; artist’s name; contact phone and/or email; and sales price (or NFS if not for sale). Mat-less presentation in a frame without glass or acrylic covering is acceptable. The size of the framed submitted work can be at most 320 square inches. The submitter must leave the work on display in the show for its full run. The gallery commission is a 35% donation taken from any sales.
The show will be mounted in both galleries of CAL located at 312 Cannon Street in downtown Chestertown. Regular gallery hours are Wed. through Fri, noon until 3 pm, Saturdays 10 am – 4 pm, and Sundays noon until 3 pm from May through October.
