Floor cloths, popular in 15th century France, were again used frequently in colonial decor. Originally imported from London, both stenciled and painted floor cloths were manufactured in this country from the late eighteenth century.
Recreate one of the earliest forms of interior decoration on Monday, April 11, from 9:30 to 3:00 at Heron Point in Chestertown. Sponsored by Artworks, a class to paint or stencil your own floor cloth will be led by Dorothy Arthur, of Parkton, an instructor at the Carroll County Farm Museum and Anne Arundel Community College.
Learn how to design a diamond or stencil one. Learn how to use stencil brushes and foam brushes to create them and take home a finished cloth.
The registration deadline is April 1.
