“Searching far and wide for true love is the hard part,” says events designer Sara England Cunningham. “Getting married locally should be easy!” The idea of staying local for the big day has come home to roost, and Connect.the.Dots, Cunningham’s creative design company, is dedicated to “keeping business local, using the tremendous resources and components we have right here.” Cunningham has been utilizing the talents of local vendors – including floral, rental, design, music, and food — to help her produce her magical events for years. “I have a personal commitment to my community; it’s important to me.”
To that end, Connect.the.Dots has developed “Local Brides!” a special offer available only to brides living or working in Kent and Queen Anne’s Counties who marry locally and use local vendors. Cunningham says the special pricing is an incentive to let local brides know that the mechanisms for fabulous weddings– “with all their moving parts” – are completely available without leaving home. The offer is good through the 2011 calendar year. Protective of the Eastern Shore’s tremendous resources, Cunningham is concerned that as large event companies outside the local community recognize the potential market here, they will be eager to import outside vendors. “The impact could have the Walmart impact on our community weakening and wiping out the smaller companies.” Cunningham is determined to give brides a break to remind them that unique wedding opportunities can start in their own proverbial – or literal — backyards. She says, “whether a bride is interested in going green”, or simply wants to insure her getting hitched goes off without a hitch, “the vendors here are as good as it gets”. Says Cunningham, “I‟d like to keep our vendors busy, our brides happy, and continue planting the seeds to keep our community healthy.”
