Chris Cerino Releases Second Album

December 28, 2010 by Bay Journal

Share

With a style unmistakably his own, and subject matter that’s inspired by life on the Eastern Shore, Kent County folklorist Chris Cerino has released his second collection of 13 original songs that capture the pleasures and challenges of living in this slice of paradise. “Traveling at the Speed of Tide” tackles rural and small town life in tunes about crabs, rumors, two lane roads and even dog poop – with the humor and affection we all employ to balance the frustrations and joys of Eastern Shore life.

As he did with his first CD, Cerino recorded his songs in front of a live audience, this time at the 2010 Chestertown Wildlife Exhibition & Sale which, along with the Kent County Arts Council, provided funding to assist with production.

Cerino finds subject matter everyplace from the Kent County News to country stores, fire sirens and local waterways. His songs invite the listener to enjoy a total sensory experience – by conjuring up the sights, sounds, smells, tastes and textures of Shore life.

Cerino first came to Kent County in May 1992, when he attended the Chestertown Tea Party Festival with his mother and stumbled upon Echo Hill Outdoor School’s display booth. After talking himself into a job as an outdoor educator, he has lived in Kent County ever since. In 2000, Cerino moved to Chestertown and became Vice President of Sultana Projects, designing the organization’s educational programs that have reached over 50,000 students. “It has been such a pleasure to be able to live and work in Kent County for the past twenty years,” Cerino said. “While some of my songs poke fun at the many idiosyncrasies of the region, at the end of the day this album is a celebration of all the qualities that make the Eastern Shore so unique.”

A limited production of “Traveling at the Speed of Tide” is available at The Compleat Bookseller, Play It Again Sam and The Sultana Center in downtown Chestertown, priced at $15.

Thanks to the Spy’s write up, I joined the standing room only crowd at Chris’ concert last night. It was an absolute delight . He hates all the same things I hate ,but so wittily.
