Continuing through November 16, 2010, the Academy Art Museum is displaying more than a dozen photographs by Steve McCurry, the American photojournalist best known for his photograph “Afghan Girl” that originally appeared in National Geographic magazine. The image itself was named as “the most recognized photograph” in the history of the National Geographic magazine and her face became famous as the cover photograph on the June 1985 issue.
While this exhibition brings together a selection of work from an internationally recognized photojournalist, the occasion is part of a larger program meant to highlight a speaking engagement by Dr. Khaled Hosseini, the author of “The Kite Runner,” who will appear at the Avalon Theatre, Easton on October 22nd.
Support for the overall programming comes from the Women and Girl’s Fund, the Aperture Foundation, the Dock Street Foundation and the Academy Art Museum.
Beginning in October, 2010 the Academy Art Museum will be open on Sundays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The Academy Art Museum is located at 106 South Street in Easton, Maryland. Hours of operation are Mondays, & Fridays 10am to 4pm, with extended hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays 10am to 7pm. Open Saturdays 10am to 3pm. Admission is free. For more information, please call (410) 822-2787(ARTS).
