Farewell Mary Roe

May 27, 2010 by Dave Wheelan

Share

Mary Roe Walkup, Maryland Assembly Delegate for the 36th District, which includes Kent, Queen Anne’s, parts of Cecil and Caroline counties, has announced her decision not to seek a fifth term.

A delegate since 1995, Walkup has helped improve environmental and energy policies, promoted alternative energy and broadband telecommunication to rural areas, which enables telecommuting and improves job availability and marketing for rural residents. She has held the Chesapeake and the residents in her constituency foremost in her mind as she served as ranking member of the House Economics Matters Committee, helping to prevent dredge spoil being spread on Kent County farmland and instead being recycled into marketable construction aggregates. Walkup has consistently stood up for environmental causes, and has, despite the masses of paperwork, detail, and time constraints, striven to do her homework on the issues at hand before taking a stand.

Jay Jacobs (R) Mayor or Rock Hall, and Arthur (Art) Hock (D) of Chestertown are each hoping to take her place in the upcoming election.

Mary Roe, thank you for your service. You have been a true representative of those whom you serve. Run for President in 2012! You’ve got to be a significant improvement over who’s currently holding the office.
