With a little help from the Office of Tourism Development the county has entered the 21st Century.
At their Tuesday meeting the commissioners were introduced to the county’s new Facebook page by Jen Davis, tourism and economic development office administrative aide.
“This is a great way for us to reach as many potential tourists as possible,” Davis said.
Facebook, a free social networking site, has more than 400 million users, 50 percent of whom log in every day. Businesses, non-profits, governments, and individuals can create profile pages and “friend” (a verb in this case) other users. As of this morning, the County of Kent, Maryland Tourism, the official name of the county’s Facebook page, had more than 200 friends.
Davis and Bernadette Van Pelt, economic and tourism director, are able to post upcoming events, pictures, and videos on the page. Friends, or fans, of the page are also able to post events or comments. The Facebook page is also linked to more than 30 Facebook pages of local businesses and organizations.
“This is just another marketing tool for our audience,” Van Pelt said.
To access to page go to www.facebook.com and search for “County of Kent, Maryland Tourism.” You will need to create a Facebook profile to access the page.

Not sure I want Facebook aficionados to visit Chestertown or Kent County…Nothing more that today’s waste of time and tomorrow’s memory.
