The deadline came and went and still no bids were received on 215 Washington Ave., the current Board of Education building, which is causing the commissioners to change their tactics.
After running an ad in the Kent County News and Star Democrat listing the asking price at $1.8 million, the commissioners have decided to remove the price from the ad and try again.
“We did that as a fiduciary responsibility to the tax payers,” County Administrator Susanne Hayman said at Tuesday’s meeting.
“I say we see what comes in and base our fiduciary responsibility off of that,” Commissioner Ron Fithian said.
Commissioner William Pickrum said the county was willing to work with interested buyers and “there were all kinds of possibilities.”
The building was reappraised in March, which determined the most recent asking price. Proceeds from the sale of the property will be used to fund the school consolidation project.
