New Crew Ships Aboard Sultana

There are some new faces in town – the crew of the Sultana, and they’re busy gearing up for the first educational sail on March 31.

Make a welcome for –

David Goldman, chief mate, comes with a background in sailing that spans the western Atlantic from Massachusetts to Costa Rica. He served as third mate aboard the schooners  Spirit of Massachusetts and Lettie G. Howard.

Kirstin Schoeninger, education director, is a graduate of La Salle University who comes to Sultana from Echo Hill Outdoor School where she was a teacher and staff naturalist.

Jonas Caleb Burns, deckhand and educator, graduated first in class out of 6,674 students at North Carolina State. He has volunteered with Helping Hands and been a peer tutor in chemistry and math.

Barron Jones, deckhand and educator, was an Eagle Scout, graduated from Georgia State and studied in India with the International Entrepreneurshiip Study Abroad Program. He has worked on a 130-foot schooner around the Caribbean.

Shannon Bridget Reilley, deckhand  and educator, is a graduate from St. John’s College in Santa Fe  and worked as an aquarist at Lahinch Seaworld in Ireland and on deck aboard the Kalmar Nyckel.

Morgan Diederichs, cook and educator, founded the University of Minnesota French Club, has studied in England and Paris and worked as preservationist, housekeeper, banquet server and cook.
