It’s almost routine at Kent County High School: a fight, a theft, underage smoking.
The sheriff’s office reports that at 1:45 Thursday afternoon it charged two 16-year-old Galena girls with disorderly conduct after they got into a fist-fight while taking instruction in a classroom.
“The students were separated by classmates and staff,” reads the report.
At 11 a.m. a 16-year-old male student, hometown Worton, reported a theft. Said the sheriff: “The victim reported a laptop stolen from his backpack at the Kent County High School. The laptop was a silver Apple Mac Book Pro. The approximate value is $1,200.”
At 2 p.m. two boys, an 18-year-old from Worton and a 15-year-old from Galena, were caught smoking outside the building during class hours and charged with underage possession of tobacco.

There may be issues, but Dr. Thomas has been publicly asking for the parents support, which would greatly help and start to deter negative issues at the high school. Community support would be great and no matter how old a child is – they still need their parents. The high school has been posting meetings on the high school website, and on powerschools ‘bulletin’, on the PTSA’s facebook and the county wide new online calendar page, as well as the KCPS automated telephone system called all parents houses the other day to inform of the last Town Hall meeting. Four of the above options are internet related and online. With all the time we parents spend online these days – stop by one of the outlets and take a look to keep updated. Community -please start using these outlets and look for information about the high school so you can become involved and become an advocate. Together, the community and parents can make this a great High school!

Nothing can make that a good high school. I graduated from KCHS in 2006 back then there were race fights, theft and all sorts of stuff just like now.. Nothing at that school will ever change

Apparently, doing something about the wannabe thugs at the high school is disturbing to others. Perhaps if nothing were done, those observers would be satisfied. Regardless of efforts to straighten out the mess, no credit is given for the effort…only continued complaints. Either you’re part of the solution or you’re some one in the way.

John, Thank you for your observance. As a parent of a child at the high school and seeing that you say these negative things have gone on for quite some time….I would like to ask you this…please come to the high school on tuesday night at 7pm for the open Town Hall meeting to meet with other parents and the new principal and share some of your feelings on how you perceive we could all make things better. Having an Alumni there would be great – it truly takes a village and the community is invited.
