Some days you just can’t catch a break from a cop. Ask the guy who was only speeding a little on Rt. 301 in Queen Anne’s County Wednesday afternoon. What’s the big deal?
Possibly it was the cloud of smoke that billowed his way when the state trooper pulled over the car and the driver, identified as Jeffrey Windsor of Annapolis, rolled down his window. The officer was sure he knew the smell of marijuana.
Trooper Forte decided to search the vehicle. He found three bags of marijuana next to $20,000 cash in a vacuum-sealed bag.
“Windsor’s explanation of the currency was suspicious,” according to the dry wording from the State’s Attorney’s Office.
The trooper arrested Windsor and took him to the Centreville Barrack. The county drug task force was alerted. Then, according to the official report:
“Numerous receipts for marijuana grow equipment were located in Windsor’s vehicle . . .also text messages indicating Windsor was distributing marijuana as well as photographs of marijuana plants were found on his cellular phone.”
Investigators got a knock-and-announce search warrant for Windsor’s residence, on Broadneck Road in Annapolis. Here’s what they say they found:
*$187,419 in U.S. currency.
*11.5 pounds of processed marijuana, and 17 marijuana plants growing on the 2nd floor of the residence, and 54 marijuana plants in a greenhouse, and 5 plants in a rose garden on the property.
*Three long guns.
*LSD-laced sugar cubes.
*Hashish.
A moral to the story: if pulled over for speeding, don’t be blowing smoke at police.
