While others were hunkered down in their warm abodes during a long, cold weekend with the normal schedule of Fall events left unattended or rescheduled, Sara and Briggs Cunningham went full-steam ahead, as usual, and staged a wildly successful and uniquely festive event, the “Fabulous Fall Cocktail Gathering”.
The party produced by Sara’s event production company, was a rockin’ good time in a spectacular setting – a brilliant sunset right on cue – but each guest brought much more than good cheer and a warm coat; they came with cans and cans of food. Well over 2000 pounds were collected to support a local charity: The Kent County Community Food Pantry, and Sara is still counting drop-offs from people who could not attend the party.
“Now more then ever, charities that meet basic needs, like the Community Food Pantry are important to support for the health of our local community” says Cunningham. “By coming to our ‘gathering’ people discover an easy path to drop off non-perishable food items, to see others doing it and to celebrate it.”
And celebrate they did…as guests parked their cars a waiting golfcart spirited them to tented food drop area…festooned with an orange banner, then they followed a winding path through tall Loblolly pines to a huge lighted tent atthe edge of the Bay. Upon entering, guests were transported to a world combining a sultan’s luxurious desert domain with the best of an Eastern Shore autumn: wisteria vines wound their way around twinkling lights, autumn leaves were scattered on tables, gourds filled tall exotic vases and beautifully crafted amber stars hung from the ceiling. Spicy warming soups and stews were plentiful and delicious. Completing the picture were Indian candle-lights and immense straw sofas covered in blankets and pillows for quests to lounge on while listening to the foot stomping Chester River Run-Off Band.
