A search is underway for a poacher who attempted to run over a uniformed Natural Resources Police officer at Elkton.
The NRP reports officers were on foot investigating a complaint of deer poaching on Old Elk Neck Road on Tuesday night when they saw a truck stop and someone shine a light at a deer in an adjacent field. Someone in the truck shot at the deer.
“When one of the NRP officers attempted to stop the truck, the driver accelerated and attempted to strike the uniformed officer,” investigators reported. “The officer jumped out of the way to avoid being hit.”
The truck was described as a red 1997 to 2003 Ford pickup. Anyone with information on the suspects is asked to call CATCH-A-POACHER hotline at 1-800-635-6124. A cash reward is offered for information leading to arrest and conviction of the suspects.
