The real issue is not J-O-B-S… despite the J-O-B-S mantra that streams from just about every person associated with commerce and officialdom in our slice of paradise, and it’s not the real issue simply because it’s an outcome disconnected from the current state of mind of the county.
Yes, everybody does think J-O-B-S is the leading issue, but nobody has moved this lifeblood of an issue forward. And it can’t move forward until we understand our own environment, and the real issue really being the creation of the appropriate environment and that jobs become the favored outcome.
Simple? Yes, depending on how you arrange yourself on this parallax and, more importantly, understand what can or cannot be controlled by our citizens. We cannot control the world or national economy, but we can accept that our quality of life style is our driver… the vehicle that defines our slice of paradise.
OK – how we define what we treasure is always up for grabs… the ag-centricity of our economy, the preservation of our history, the shear beauty of our land… everyone has their favorite. Yet we need a oneness of direction… a focused direction to the development of the destination that not only complements the quality of life for our current citizens, but also an enhancement that attracts kindred spirits who see us for what we are.
I can dream up a train station in the Worton industrial park at the end of the tracks. I can envision the Maryland State Cow Park on 301. I can imagine an environmental museum housed in the Armory hotel and convention center. I can see an innovative public school system that acts as an educational incubator.
The bottom line… let’s unite and pick a common cause… and build it. They will come and the J-O-B-S will follow.
More later,
Warrior Bob Kramer
