The Fall Dance Concert at Washington College will present “The Halloween Night,” a haunting, gothic production that tells the story of a studious young woman named Angela who spends Halloween night cooped up alone in the library instead of going to a party. When Angela, played by junior Brooke Burghardt, falls asleep at her studies, she gets thrust into a spooky Halloween adventure of her own.
Conceived and produced by the College’s Dance Minor Program, the show will run for two performances: Friday, October 30 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, October 31 at 1:00 p.m. in Decker Theatre, Gibson Center for the Arts. It is free and open to the public and recommended for ages 6 and up.
The performance features ballet, musical theater, and modern dance choreographed by professors Asa Trinh-Smith and Paula Lynn Klopcic, along with several numbers choreographed by students Burghardt, Kaitlynn Ecker, Isabelle Ryan and Jake Smith.
Trinh-Smith is the show’s artistic director. A native of North Vietnam, she studied dance in Hanoi and was an instructor and featured dancer with the National Dance Company of Vietnam from 1975 to 1987 before coming to the United States.
Klopcic’s experience includes performing on Broadway (including Evita and Sophisticated Ladies) and in films (The Cotton Club, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and So Fine), and choreographing acts for a variety of venues, from Ringling Brothers Circus to opera stages in Germany and Ohio.
