Jeannine Lemieux, BSN, RN, PCCN, staff education specialist for UM Shore Regional Health, was among three nurses within the University of Maryland Medical System recently honored as one of the region’s 50 Top Nurses by Baltimore Magazine.
Formerly a staff nurse in the UM SMC at Dorchester Critical Care Unit (2010-2015), Lemieux was honored in the Intensive Care category and was one three UMMS nurses selected for the top 50.
Over a nine-month period, Baltimore Magazine collected hundreds of nurse nominations; of those, 50 were chosen as tops in the region by a panel of RN advisors (recommended by the Maryland Nurses Association and major local hospitals) in 18 nursing specialties. The honorees were celebrated at a dinner reception at the Center Club in Baltimore on April 14 and will be featured in Baltimore magazine’s May issue.
Unaware that she had been nominated by her colleague, Mandy Bounds, Lemieux at first paid little attention to Baltimore Magazine’s attempts to reach her. “I thought maybe they were trying to sell me a subscription, but they kept contacting me,” she recalls. She was surprised and thrilled when she found out about the honor, and attended the packed-house event at the Center Club with her son.
Ironically, the honor came just after Lemieux had left her ICU position to assume new duties as staff education specialist for UM Shore Regional Health. Lemieux, who resides in Cambridge, first joined UM Shore Regional Health in 2004 as staff nurse on the Multi-Specialty Unit at UM Shore Medical Center at Dorchester. Between 2006 and 2009 she served as co-chair and chair of Nursing Shared Leadership.
