While he had not be cleared for full contact, Weissman started Saturday’s contest, which was the Bullets’ Senior Day, before being subbed out immediately after the opening tip. With Gettysburg holding a sizable lead with under a minute to play, Gettysburg coach George Petrie re-inserted Weissman into the line-up. In the final moments of the game, Nugent called a timeout and instructed his players to foul Weissman and send him to the free-throw line. Flanigan, who was guarding Weissman at the time, informed the official of the plan and lightly tugged on Weissman’s jersey once he received the ball. Weissman went to the free-throw line and, after missing his first attempt, swished his second free-throw to cap off a long road back from the stroke he suffered as a freshman.
Weissman’s free throw was also featured on today’s SportsCenter Top 10 on ESPN.
