One of the benefits of living in Chestertown is that through some mysterious force we are connected to just about every city, town and person on Earth. Forget six degrees of separation; in Chestertown it’s rarely more than two or three. Here’s the latest cultural synchronicity: the only performing arts center in the state of Maryland to partner with the Metropolitan Opera for simulcasts of its entire fifth season is the Avalon Theater in Easton, less than an hour away.
This is an amazing opportunity to experience the world’s best opera as it happens live. The Metropolitan Opera’s Peabody and Emmy Award-winning series The Met: Live in HD, features 12 live transmissions starting in October and ending in May, 2011. The state-of-the-art sound system and high definition picture on the big screen at the Avalon are as close to the real thing as you can get without going to NYC.
Why opera? The music aside, it’s what people will do! It’s what, given half a chance, probably you too would do.
For opera lovers, and those willing to give it a try, HD/Live is an excellent way to experience an opera without spending a bundle.
Contact the box office for information regarding full & half season subscriptions. Single performance tickets start at $15.
Tickets go on sale Tuesday, September 7 at 9 a.m.
