Linkedin Malware?

October 10, 2010 by Bay Journal

Share

According to a piece in Eastman’s Online Genealogy Newsletter (EOGN)– sent to us by a dedicated community member –the Linkedin emails that some people, including this spy, have been receiving are malware; they attempt to steal passwords and account info.  The ‘Linkedin’ message says the recipient has unread messages, and urges him/her to clink the link to check them. According to EOGN’s warning, it takes a while to access during which time it’s not accessing anything but is instead  infecting the recipient’s computer with ZeuS data theft malware. While it’s doing this, there is a message:  ‘PLEASE WAITING…’ Odd English is usually a dead giveaway that you’re dealing with foreign-origin malware or an attempt at a scam. One safe way to deal with anything that comes into email that is the slightest bit iffy is to make a habit of going out of your email to access social media and get there via the legitimate main site. Bogus Facebook notifications (which this spy has received as well) are treated the same way.

The last candidate to participate in the Spy/WCTR Election Profile 2010 for Kent County Commissioner is William “Billy” Short, owner of Creative Treatments, Inc., which carries high quality window treatments and accessories. WCTR’s Keith Thompson and the Spy’s Dave Wheelan question Mr. Short on his fiscally conservative approach to county budget problems, and his plans to prioritizing spending cuts rather than across-the-board reductions.

Spy/WCTR Election Profile: Walter Coryell

October 6, 2010 by Dave Wheelan

Share

WCTR’s Keith Thompson and the Spy’s Dave Wheelan interviewed Walter Coryell last week as part of Election Profiles 2010. With a long career in law enforcement,  Coryell is eager to make big changes if elected a Kent County commissioner in November. The former Chestertown chief of police feels the county must have better financial oversight and more active support of private business and government partnerships to help keep budgets balanced. He would have supported the FASTC campus coming to Kent County and would like to prioritize county spending in the years ahead.

Old Baseball Days October 16 to Support Sudlersville Museum

October 6, 2010 by Bay Journal

Share

Sudelersville Commnity Betterment Club and the Sudlersville Train Station Museum will hold Old Baseball Days 1860 – 1950’s to raise funds for the museum’s expansion project. On the 16th of October from 10Am-3PM visitors can meet with baseball authors, including Bill Jenkinson, Mike Lambert, and Mark Millikin at the Sudlersville Middle School. There will be an All American Girls Professional Baseball League Exhibit,  Fair Plays Baseball Club Exhibit, Eastern Shore Baseball Museum Exhibit, and the Philadelphia A’s Historical Society is offering limited edition Jimmie Foxx bobble head dolls for sale, plus other Foxx memorabilia. For info 410-928-3406 or 410-648-6781.

Here is some background info regarding this event:

The Museum is experiencing growing pains – our collections have expanded beyond the limits of our current building.  In 2006, we received a donation from the Sudlersville American Legion Post #192, which enabled us to purchase land across from the current RR Station.

The next phase is to raise the money needed to erect a new building that will house all of our Jimmie Foxx and baseball displays, as well as other items of history from our town.  We will still continue to operate at the original Station site.

We received a recent challenge from an anonymous donor.  This pledge would give us a match donation of up to $50,000 for money raised within the next two years.  This was a opportunity we could not ignore.  Thus the kick-off fundraiser is October 16th.

Hospice Celebrates 25th Year with Lawn Party

October 6, 2010 by Bay Journal

Share

The Chester River Health Foundation will celebrate 25 years of locally available hospice services with a lawn party and wine auction on Sunday, October 24, 2010 from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm, at historic Brittland Manor, just outside of Chestertown.

While many changes, both big and small, have occurred over these last 25 years in hospice care, the core mission has remained the same: to serve individuals nearing the end of life’s journey, their families and their friends with  compassion, respect and dignity. Comprehensive hospice services are made possible in our community due to the generous donations of many. Hospice care is a special service that touches many lives, and the contributions of community members have provided the means to develop services that have helped their neighbors and friends.

“We want people to understand that our service belongs to the community—hospice is wherever our patients and families need us to be,” said Cindy Bach, director of Chester River Home Care & Hospice.

Dr. Patrick Shanahan, medical director of hospice, will speak at the event. His passion for hospice and willingness to donate his time stems from personal experiences with the program. His story, which will no doubt resonate with many others, demonstrates the importance of hospice on both a personal level, and a community level.

Judie Willock, an early board member who is very passionate about hospice, cites her experiences with hospice during her mother and father-in-law’s passings as her inspiration for becoming involved. “I had such great experiences during those difficult times in my life and marveled at the dedication of the hospice workers. During my time on the board, I wanted to make sure that same experience was truly available to everyone,” commented Willock.

Guests at the 25th anniversary celebration will enjoy a buffet of savory hot and cold hors d’oeuvres, bite-size desserts and coffee service provided by Jeff Carroll of Amuse Bouche, a local caterer. Background music by Meredith Davies Hadaway and Tom Anthony will feature a variety of string and wood instruments. A full cash bar will be available.

To accompany this milestone celebration, a wine auction will feature select bottles of red and white wines, as well as champagne and specialty wines. The bottles will be randomly numbered. Each guest who purchases a wine auction ticket will receive a numbered wine cork, which entitles them to “win” a bottle of wine.

Quail Run of Millington has donated flowers that will be custom arranged by Flower Power in Chestertown. The flower arrangements will be given away as door prizes.

To purchase tickets or to donate a bottle of wine for the auction, please contact Maryann Ruehrmund, director of the Chester River Health Foundation at 410-810-5661. Tickets for the lawn party are $50 each and include food and entertainment. Guests will need to purchase a separate ticket, $50 each, for the wine auction.   If you cannot attend, please feel free to call the Foundation office to learn about other ways you can support Chester River Home Care & Hospice.

The Chester River Health Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charitable organization, which raises funds that steward the future of health care excellence for the people served locally by the Chester River Hospital Center, Chester River Manor, and Chester River Home Care & Hospice.
