On Saturday, March 22, at 7 p.m., Kent Chamber Music welcomes back the Peabody Consort, to perform at its 5th concert of the season.

The Peabody Consort, an early music ensemble founded by Peabody faculty lutist and director of the Early Music Program, Mark Cudek, will be performing a selection of Renaissance works by Dowland, Hume, Morley and others.

The Consort is a select group of student musicians from the Peabody Renaissance Ensemble. It includes viola de gambist, Brian Kay; countertenor, Daniel Moody; soprano, Julie Bosworth; Jeffrey Grabelle, bass and treble viol; Jeremy Lyons, Bandora and Baroque guitar; Aik Shin Tan, recorder and Baroque flute; and Niccolo Seligmann, bass viol and vielle.

The concert will be held at Hotchkiss Recital Hall, Gibson Center for the Arts at Washington College, 300 Washington Avenue (Route 213), Chestertown, at 7 pm. Tickets may be purchased at the door for $15.

On Saturday, February 15, at 7 p.m., Kent Chamber Music welcomes a new ensemble to its series – the Pyxis Piano Quartet. Performing in the group are Hiroko Yamazaki, piano; Amy Leonard, viola; Meredith Amado, violin and Jie Jin, cello.

The Quarter will be performing Bucolics (for viola and cello) by  Witold Lutoslawski; Serenade for String Trio in D Major, Op. 8 by Ludwig van Beethoven and Piano Quartet in A Major, Op. 30 by Ernest Chausson.

Lutoslawski was one of Europe’s most celebrated musicians of the 20th century and Bucolics is a splendidly whimsical yet elegant take on the folk music of his homeland in the Kurpie region northwest of Warsaw. Chausson was an important composer as a link between late French Romanticism and Impressionism. His piano quartet is one of several significant chamber works of refined beauty that he contributed to the chamber music repertoire.

Although new to our series, the Quartet has been performing for audiences in the Delaware, Virginia and Pennsylvania area since 2009. The group was formed to perform chamber music concerts which include works from the sonata, duo and trio repertoire as well as traditional and contemporary masterpieces for piano quartet. Compelling, engaging and informative, Pyxis performances have become amongst the most sought-after in the Delaware art scene. Now beginning its 4th season as Ensemble in Residence at the Delaware Art Museum, Pyxis performs regularly to sold out audiences.
