Understanding the Sun Traveling Exhibit on Display at Kent County Public Library

August 13, 2016 by Kent County Public Library

Share

kent county public libraryIf you think of the sun as just a source of light and heat, stop by Kent County Public Library’s Chestertown branch and explore the traveling Understanding the Sun exhibit to learn about sunspots, space weather, and NASA’s missions to the sun.

Kent County Public Library is pleased to be the first location in the state to host the five-panel display, which was created by the Maryland Science Center in partnership with scientists at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and made possible by grant funding from NASA.

In addition to the traveling exhibit, the Maryland Science Center’s NASA grant provides professional development opportunities for teachers in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, and West Virginia. Of the 10 educator workshops held so far, two have been conducted at Kent County High School. Participating educators learn activities they can take back to their classrooms and became eligible to borrow a portable Sunspotter solar telescope for use with their students.

For more information about the Maryland Science Center, visit www.mdsci.org

To view the exhibit, visit KCPL’s Chestertown branch whenever it is open. For more information about KCPL, visit kentcountylibrary.org or call 410.778.3636.
