The “Big Reveal” to Unveil A&E District’s Logo May 6

April 25, 2016 by Town of Chestertown

The Chestertown Arts & Entertainment District will reveal its branding logo during a special event May 6 as part of the monthly First Friday celebration.  Set to begin in Fountain Park at 6:00 p.m., the half-hour “Big Reveal” will include music by Jigs & Reels and the performance of an original song by singer/songwriter Jay Yerkes, accompanied by Mayor Chris Cerino. Former Kent County News editor Kevin Hemstock, who has written often on the history of Chestertown, will provide historical perspective on the new logo.

Kay MacIntosh, manager of the A&E District, says the logo was created after a months-long branding exercise led by Benchworks, a national marketing firm based in Chestertown. That process started in November with a public session where interested residents talked about the value of the arts and what symbols and words they associate with the historic downtown area where the A&E District is located.  Benchworks’ marketing experts then met with a smaller advisory group to refine the concepts, ultimately working with Chestertown-based illustrator Robbi Behr to create the logo artwork. Benchworks donated much of the brand consulting, and Behr donated her artistry.

The logo will be used on banners, stationery, digital advertising and other marketing materials. “I am excited about what we will unveil on May 6,” said MacIntosh.  “It reflects the importance of the arts to Chestertown, and also the strength of our community spirit and hospitality.”
