Ten organizations representing the Behavioral Health Coalition of the Mid-Shore are partnering this year to host the 2016 Annual Behavioral Health Legislative Forum on Tuesday, January 5th from 6:00 – 8:00pm at the Talbot County Community Center in Easton. The participating organizations are the Mental Health Association in Talbot County (MHATC), Maryland Coalition of Families for Children’s Mental Health (MCF), Chesapeake Voyagers (CVI) and Mid-Shore Mental Health Systems (MSMHS), Channel Marker, Crossroads Community, Affiliated Sante Group – Mobile Crisis Team, Recovery for Shore and the Talbot County Addictions Program and For All Seasons, Inc. This program is open to the public and free of charge.
Representatives who have been invited include, Sen. Addie Eckardt, Delegate Johnny Mautz, Delegate Christopher Adams, Delegate Sheree Sample-Hughes, Senator Steve Hershey, Delegate Jay Jacobs, Delegate Steve Arentz and Delegate Jeff Ghrist. “This Legislative Forum will be different from the past several years” states Jackie Davis, executive director of MHATC. “As our local coalition grows to include a wide range of organizations who operate within the Behavioral Health System in the mid-shore area, we thought this night would be a perfect opportunity for those coalition partners to express their concerns and ask for the support they would like to see from our local representatives”. Ms. Davis goes on to say “It is important for the community and the legislators to know and understand the challenges we face in the mid-shore region and the need to have a community conversation regarding behavioral health services”.
The evening will begin at 6:00 p.m. with light refreshments and a meet and greet opportunity followed by a legislative panel from 6:30 – 7:45pm that will include questions from the representative organizations as well as a question and answer period from the audience. After a period of closing remarks, the evening will conclude at 8:00pm.
