Before Mauritz “Marty” Stetson announced his candidacy for reelection for 4th Ward Councilman during last Monday’s town council meeting, the Spy had an opportunity to sit down with him and talk about the past, present and future of Chestertown and his experience on the council these last 8 years.
A self-proclaimed fiscal conservative, Stetson has long been hawkish in his evaluation of town expenditures. As he jokingly remarks in the video, he has racked up more 4-1 vote counts than anyone on the council as he continues to hew to his vision of protecting the town’s growth. Always looking for the positive, even after being the lone dissenting vote against the marina purchase by the town several years back, he supports the Mayor’s endeavors to make the marina work. He’s cautious but works to amplify the majority’s decision.
The 2.5 acre Chestertown Dog Park he initiated in Rolling Road—along with the Friends of Chestertown Dog Park in 2013— is emblematic of his regard for the welfare of the community.
In true fashion, the councilman stated during Monday’s town council meeting that he would not be accepting financial donations for his reelection campaign,
Currently, no one has filed to run against him.

I was pleasantly surprised and privileged to see the interview with Marty Stetson. If I lived in Chestertown, Maryland I would vote for him. He is confident, well spoken and trustworthy and his position on controlled growth matches my philosophy.
