Town comprehensive plans are not usually the stuff of morning coffee conversations, but if you were sitting outside of Sam’s Coffee Shop with your double latte, you’d be smack dabbed in the middle of an evolving plan to grow carefully Chestertown in an economically healthy and environmentally sound direction.
From Sultana Education’s building site on the corner of Cannon and South Cross Streets, to the Stepne Manor property south of the Stepne Station, to Wilmer Park, the Marina and a half mile of waterfront shared by the town and Washington College, the Chestertown Comprehensive Plan has been designed by countless volunteer hours to enhance through careful development the future of the community while curating the resources that make it unique.
Chestertown Planning Commission Chairman Jeff Grotsky sat down recently with the Spy to give us an overview of how the Commission creates and implements a comprehensive plan. It’s a great introduction to one of the most important structural aspects of the community.
