Chestertown RiverArts is sponsoring two exhibits in May which will be exhibited together in both galleries at 315 High Street, Suite 106. The 13th Annual Open Judged Photography Show, The Art of the Photograph, and Art from the Earth: A Judged Clay Show will open on First Friday, May 1 and run through May 30. Modest cash awards for both shows will be announced at the opening reception.
RiverArts invites both local and regional photographers to enter The Art of the Photograph. Two entries may be submitted of any subject, theme, and photographic technique. The show’s judge is Warren Kahle, an award-winning photographer from Annapolis. He earned the Master of Photography degree from the Professional Photographers of America at the national convention in Atlantic City in 2002. Among his many awards is the Kodak Gallery Elite award he received at the 2005 PPA national convention. He is currently a member of the Maryland Federation of Art and has participated in many juried shows. Go to www.wkgallery.com/bio to read his biography and see a slide show of his images at here.
The judged show, Art from the Earth, is also an open show. All forms created from clay, whether functional, figurative, conceptual or abstract, are welcome. Artists should let their hands be guided by the clay to express their unique ideas through this very sensuous material hardened by heat, then left raw, painted or glazed. Paul Aspell will judge the clay show. Paul has been working in stoneware pottery for many years. He describes his current work as a continuing investigation of texture and form. His training includes a B.A. in Art Education and an M.A. in Ceramics. Paul taught at the Newark Academy in Livingston, NJ for sixteen years before moving to the Eastern Shore in 2002. He currently teaches pottery at The Academy Art Museum in Easton, Md.
Drop-off dates for both exhibits are Sunday, April 26 and Monday, April 27. The entry fee is $10 for members and $20 for non-members. For more information contact RiverArts at 410-778-6300, email [email protected] or go to www.chestertownriverarts.org.
