Kent County Office of Emergency Services is in contact with Maryland’s emergency agency, MEMA and the National Weather Service on the monitoring of Hurricane Sandy and her potential impact level for the Eastern Shore. Currently, the models are still very much in flux and concrete storm direction, arrival, wind strength and rain amounts are very difficult. What we do know is rain could potentially start mid day on Saturday and continue through Monday night. Conference calls are in the process of being scheduled and as we receive more solid information, we will make sure you are notified.
The current possible track for Sandy is attached. Please remember this is not set in stone.
Please take this time to secure any outside furniture and decorations that could be moved in strong winds. Cleaning and clearing gutters and storm drains is recommended. Ensuring you have fresh batteries, working flashlights, radios, fully fueled vehicles, ready to go emergency kits, food, water, books and games (in case of power outage) is also a very good idea. Don’t forget your pets in your planning!
OES will be updating the Kent County Website and our Facebook page throughout this event as well.

How about ADOPT-A-DRAIN?
If you live on street with a drain water flow device of any kind go out and clear it NOW! If we do get another flooding rain and storm surge clogged street drains will need to be cleared before the water goes away.
Likewise, driving near the river or streams and ditches could suddenly be dangerous. Watch for standing water!
And yes, do put two of each kind of animal in the boat you have been building in the back yard.

I hope the town will be out bright and early with the leaf vacuum which should lend some hope to keeping the storm drains cleared.
We can’t keep the leaves from blowing off the trees, but at least the vacuum should assist residents in keeping the strom drains cleared.
