On Friday, September 14, more than 250 people gathered under the tented pavilion at the Kitty Knight House for the second annual “Taste of the Sassafras.” Held just a few feet from the spot where the British invaded Georgetown in May 1813, the event’s theme was the War of 1812.
Ten vendors presented small bites of gorgeous food, including crab lasagna, Angus beef on baguettes, potato and leek soup, and chocolate cake with Guinness ice cream. Crow Farm Vineyards provided Chardonnay, the Georgetown Yacht Basin provided harbor tours in their 19-passenger launch, “Mary,” and the Kirsten Thien Band provided music. Mother Nature provided cool temperatures and one of the prettiest sunsets of the year.
Sponsored by the Sassafras River Business Council, “A Taste of the Sassafras” raises money for that organization, as well as the Kent County Library and food ministries in the Galena area.
