A rented brush cutter burst into flames in the 100 block of Flatland Road Thursday.
Deputy Fire Chief Phil Russum was on the scene with Engine 6 and said the fire started a little after 12:35PM — and was extinguished about 15 minutes later.
According to operator of the brush cutter, a small fire began on the top of the motor and started to spread. Unable to put the fire out, the operator rolled the cutter into a roadside ditch and called 911.
The brush cutter was engulfed in flames when Engine 6 arrived but was quickly extinguished by a team of about five firefighters.
There were no injuries reported, but the brush cutter appeared to be totalled.

That was a Just Ask Rental brushcutter and according to our mechanics the bowl on the carburetor had worked it’s way loose and leaked fuel onto the engine. That thing really burned! Glad no one was hurt.
