The Aspen Institute was recently awarded a $6,050 grant by the National Trust for Historic Preservation from the Henry A. Jordan, M.D. Preservation Excellence Fund for the Mid-Atlantic States. These grant funds will be used to support the Institute’s Wye River Campus Historical Documentation and Interpretation Project.
The project will span highlights from the 18 century farm’s ownership by the family of William Paca, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, through the internationally renowned programs of its current owners, the Aspen Institute and the University of Maryland. The undertaking will produce a video documentary, including oral personal accounts, as well as written products that will expand the public’s knowledge of the property’s historical values and rich cultural heritage.
“Organizations like the Aspen Institute help to ensure that communities and towns all across America retain their unique sense of place,” said Stephanie Meeks, president of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. “We are honored to provide a grant to the Institute, which will use the funds to help preserve an important piece of our shared national heritage.”
Grants from the National Trust Preservation Funds range from $2,500 to $5,000 and have provided over $15 million since 2003. These matching grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations and public agencies across the country to support wide-ranging activities including consultant services for rehabilitating buildings, technical assistance for tourism that promotes historic resources, and the development of materials for education and outreach campaigns.
