Letter to Editor: One Candidate Doesn’t Add Up

November 2, 2016 by

Share

One major party’s presidential candidate is a public liar, refuses to provide tax returns, faces civil and criminal trials in November and December, is backed by the Ku Klux Klan, other white extremists and hate groups, and the National Rifle Association, denigrates Mexicans, Muslims, women, disabled persons, journalists, refugees, immigrants, the Pope, a federal judge, an associate Supreme Court justice, LGBTQs, a mom and her baby, POWs, Gold Star parents, and Iowans, appears ignorant regarding the U.S. Constitution, admires Russia’s prime minister, incites followers to violence, and threatens to prosecute and jail his opponent, but the media is mostly focused on e-mails
that the other major party’s candidate didn’t send.

Grenville B. Whitman

Up until Mr. Whitman put the “his” in this statement, I truly believed he was speaking of Hillary. Hmmm, interesting spin on things.

Spin on things?! Mr. Trump is the most vile human in every way, and the idea that Hillary Clinton is unfit for the Presidency is ludicrous, no matter one’s political bent.

Thus we have most Republican state lawmakers denouncing Trump as well as practically every person who has had the honor to serve our country as a foreign policy expert, every former President the same. Every newspaper and publication… I could go on, but the point is that this man is dangerous. Forget politics and forget partisanship. Trump supporters apparently fall into two camps: the doner class: those who would hold their noses to elect a fascist for tax cuts for the wealthy and lax corporate regulations ( although let us not forget the irony that
Wall Street will not forgive a Trump win). Next are low-info supporters who admire Trump for his constant hateful comments: whether they are living marginalized lives due to
economic insecurity, ignorance or whatever, these people seem to relish a man who publicly expresses their private sentiments about women, minorities, the disabled, or whoever they feel is threatening their lives. He is not to be able to complete a paragraph without making disgusting comments. Very sad indeed…especially since these supporters have been hoodwinked by a con artist who doesn’t care about them, Never has and never will. It is always about him. Period.

about them and his policies, if elected, would reflect that.

Well, that was very informative. A true think piece on your part.

Thank you, and well summarized, Gren. Even if one is not hugely enthused with Hillary Clinton, the thought of electing this particular Republican is just scary. For me, he epitomizes the ultimate “ugly American.” – raised wealthy and privileged; inheriting an already successful business (albeit one that didn’t have a great track record of fairness to tenants or sub-contractors); a playboy lifestyle (showing up at all of the glitzy clubs, multiple affairs and marriages, owning beauty pageants, etc.); sticking his name on everything he does/owns; overstating his good deeds and seeking public credit for doing so; building, owning and hanging out at ritzy gulf club resorts; playing a “tough guy” (that is probably close to his normal business personality) on a reality TV show; and calling people names. If any one of these didn’t disqualify him to be President, it’s that they all describe him. Plus, what we need now at this particular time in our nation, are leaders that are willing and able to talk with one another to try to find common ground. Trump has never been in a role that requires him to listen to others, and find consensus. He has always been in charge, and reportedly doesn’t like people who contradict him. When people contradict him – like Hillary did in the debates – he gets angry and attacks. Middle of the night tweets?

Oh how good McCain and Romney look as worthy opponents.

    I have a concern!

I understand that, because the things Mr. Whitman as cited, many citizens will not vote for The Donald. They believe these things disqualify a candidate. They don’t think someone with such characteristics should be president. This I understand.

I can even accept the possibility that Trump supporters will either disregard or ignore the numerous examples of poor conduct and lack of ability to unite and lead the country. They want their man in because he speaks to them and they want what they want Other elections have gone that way.

What concerns me is who will pull the strings if Trump gets into the executive office? Clearly it will not be him. He has not presented any ideas or plans…..we have been given vague promises. So who will be driving and where are they taking us?

    This worries me,

    Joe

Gren, I guess the votes added up for the candidate who didn’t add up. 🙂

    Is it 2020 yet?
