Local Color: The Chestertown Coloring Book, a fundraising project to support the Arts & Entertainment District, will go on sale in local stores during First Friday festivities Nov. 4. A launch party honoring the artists who contributed artwork to the book will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the currently vacant retail space at 114 S. Cross, where the book will be for sale and coloring tables will be set up until 8:00 p.m.
The book is priced at $20, of which $15 is tax deductible. In addition to being carried at most downtown shops, it will be available at Town Hall, 118 N. Cross Street.
Printed on heavy stock, Local Color contains 35 scenes by 17 artists, some totally hand-drawn and others based on digitally altered photographs, with text about each scene. Participating artists include Stuart Cawley, Marcy Dunn Ramsey, Mary Pritchard, Connie Schroth, Marjorie Kelley, and Trcy Wilson. Artist and graphic designer Barbara Slocum contributed seven drawings and designed the book. The introductory pages include an essay by local writer Jamie Kirkpatrick about the people who make Chestertown such a special place.
“The book is a fun mix of styles and subject matter, from storefronts and iconic structures to Lucy the goose, and it celebrates our amazing community,” says Kay MacIntosh, manager of the A&E District. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to help us raise funds for signage and marketing projects in the District.”
