As temperatures on the Eastern Shore begin to drop, the days shorten and the first leaves drift down, our thoughts start to go to the comfort of a simmering pot on the stove and perhaps a fire crackling in the fireplace. Fall is the time of change and a time to stimulate our senses. What better way to do this than an art opening featuring paintings that celebrate the rich hues of harvest time and our native wildlife?

“Frozen in Time” – oil by Bonnie Howell
The Artists Gallery invites you to step into Fall as they present a “Celebration of Harvest and Wildlife,” featuring paintings by exhibiting artists Jonathan Shaw and Marc Rubin, along with the partners of the Artists Gallery – Bonnie Howell, Linda Hall, Sally Clark, Barbara Zuehlke, Nancy Thomas and Evie Baskin. Jonathan Shaw‘s portraits of Eastern Shore wildlife are sensitively rendered with great detail. One of the joys of living in our rural area is the chance of sighting wild animals, but it can be rare to see them close-up. Shaw’s paintings remedy this with a style that is able to reveal the sharp cunning in a fox’s eyes or the perfect tapestry of fall foliage at the foot of a wild buck. Marc Rubin is a classic still life painter from Elmira, New York whose representational work invites meaning and evokes a story. He captures everyday objects at eye-level, sized in the frame as they are in the world—but he imbues them with a spirit and presence that makes them become larger than life.
The public is invited to view this exciting collection of work at The Artists Gallery on First Friday, October 7, 2016 from 5-8 p.m. The paintings in this show will be featured in The Artists Gallery throughout the month of October. The Artists Gallery is located at 239 High Street in Chestertown, and is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10-5 and Sundays from 12:30-4:30.
