RiverArts’ Fine Craft Exhibition and Sale features work from artisans, local and beyond, in a celebration of artful living in the gallery’s second annual fine crafts show, opening Friday, September 2.
Curators Shelly Minch and William Brockschmidt challenged participants to “elevate their work beyond the rapidly disappearing line separating crafts from fine art.”The show represents the wide variety of work created by local and regional artists: ceramics, metal, jewelry, fiber arts, and wood,in both small scale and large scale. Wood crafts are well represented, including doll houses, bird houses, a ukulele and a rocking cradle. Fiber work features quilts and pillows, as well as wearable art – jewelry, and hand knitted clothing. In addition, there are a number of works by RiverArts Clay Studio artists, illustrating the growing popularity of ceramics.
First Friday visitors are encouraged to cast a ballot for the People’s Choice Award, which will be announced over the weekend. The exhibit and sale will continue through the month of September. It’s not too early to start your holiday shopping!
